Karen Herdklotz, Hoo Haven Events (Hoo Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center), accepts fall 2017 grant award.  Karen explained, "Our request is to provide (4) four Pelican Ambassador Environmental Education Programs to elementary school children in four Freeport School District elementary schools. These unique and interactive programs help reinforce science concepts taught in the classroom while promoting youth stewardship and conservation. Hoo Haven's Ambassador program featuring "Marshmallow" the pelican will help promote lifelong behaviors and attitudes that reflect respect for wildlife and the environment."

We received grants from UTC Aerospace Systems- Hamilton Sundstrand, Commonwealth Edison and Magellan Diagnostics toward the purchase of a special lead blood analyzer.

We can now quickly diagnose high lead levels and other metals in our wildlife patients- particularly bald eagles.
